Grace For Your Day May 11

Grace For Your Day

A Christian website recently said that, while the Coronavirus is creating many problems for the church today, it is doing some good because it is forcing us to do things differently. It is forcing Christians to think outside of the box. The website also said that it is exposing idols in the ministry that we all have and they listed 10 of them which are as follows:

  1. The Idol of Productivity
  2. The Idol of Finances
  3. The Idol of Committee Meetings
  4. The Idol of Tradition
  5. The Idol of Attendance
  6. The Idol of Affirmation
  7. The Idol of Momentum
  8. The Idol of Programs
  9. The Idol of Status
  10. The Idol of Expertise

What is interesting about this list is that it is so different from the lists that God gives us in the Bible. It is very different from the things that He tells us to focus on in passages like Ephesians 3:14-19 where it says:

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God."

If you notice, Paul does not ask for productivity and finances in this passage. He does not pray for affirmation or status. Rather, he asks for the Lord to give us power in the inner man. He prays that we would be able to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge. In other words, he asks the Lord to bless our souls. He asks the Lord to grow our spirits, not our budget or our tradition.

May we all focus on things like this during this difficult time. May the Lord help us to prioritize the right things as we persevere through the Coronavirus. If you would like to learn more about how to do that, please join us this Sunday morning as we study this passage together. Due to the restrictions concerning COVID-19, we will not be meeting in person but will record the sermon on Saturday night and post it on Sunday morning at our You Tube Channel.

Please join us as we learn what true worship looks like in the church. Join us as we learn how to kill our idols in the ministry and embrace the things that matter most to God.
