Grace for Your Day January 24
2020 was an unusual year here in British Columbia as we had heat waves, snow storms, and smoke blowing in from the forest fires out east. We also experienced one State of Emergency after another as the province struggled to handle major problems like the Coronavirus and the atmospheric rain storm that struck the Sumas Prairie. All in all, it was a season for the record books which is why we have spent the last three weeks talking about several controversial issues that have come up as a result of it.
When Solomon mentions “the conclusion,” he is referring to the conclusion of the book. This is what it is all about and that is that “you should fear God.” This means that you should hold God in high regard instead of getting distracted by other things. You need to make Him your highest priority instead of getting sidetracked by other issues like the Coronavirus because He is far more important than that.
In order to do that, Solomon says that you should “keep His commandments” which is another way of saying that you need to obey Him. You need to turn away from petty sins like pride and lust and greed and anger because none of that pleases Him. When you get to Judgment Day, the Lord is not going to ask, “What did you think about current events?” He is going to ask, “What did you think about the Bible?” “Did you obey it?” “Did you do what it says and trust in Christ?” With that in mind, you need to take that seriously now which is what we are going to talk about this week at Grace Fellowship Church.
This week, we are going to look at the final chapter in the Book of Ecclesiastes. We are going to study Solomon’s final words in this amazing book and see him tell us once again that the most important thing in life is the Lord. Nothing else matters but Him which is important because Solomon had a lot going for him in his life. He had more money, prestige, and power than anyone else who had ever lived in Israel but he said that it was worth nothing compared to this. You need to fear God and keep His commandments because that is the only thing that you can take with you when you die.

However, now it is time to get back to a book that we were studying several months ago before the Christmas Season because it tells us how to handle times like this and that is the Book of Ecclesiastes. In it, Solomon writes:
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil (12:13-14).
