Grace For Your Day October 12

A famous historian was once asked: "What is the difference between North America and South America? Why did one prosper so quickly while the other one lagged behind?" His answer was that one was settled by men seeking God and the other was settled by men seeking gold. It was all a matter of priorities.

Ephesians 5:18-21 says the same thing about worship when it states:

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

Paul says that, in order to worship correctly, you have to have the proper priorities. In order to praise God the way you should, you must first be filled with the Holy Spirit. You must first have your mind consumed with thoughts of Him. As you do that, the music will flow directly from your heart. It will come out naturally.

To put it another way, you cannot sing correctly until you think correctly. You cannot worship the Lord in spirit until you first worship Him in truth and the only way to do that is to study the Bible. You must immerse yourself in the Word of God.

Do you find it easy to worship God today? Do you find that songs come naturally to you? Do they flow directly from your heart? If not, it could be that you have the wrong priorities. It could be that you are seeking gold more than God. Do you find that your mind is filled with thoughts of Him? Do you find that He captures your attention? Does He give you enough to sing about or are you constantly looking for material? If so, it could be that you are not studying your Bible enough. It could be that you are not immersed in it and that is what we are going to be talking about this week at Grace Fellowship Church.

This Sunday morning, we are going to be talking about how to focus on God. We are going to talk about how to keep our minds fixed on Him so that we have something to sing about. We know that you live distracted lives so we are going to help you with that by talking about how to keep the distractions away. Please join us for the service at 9:30. Bring your Bibles and a heart that is ready for worship. We will see you there!
