Grace For Your Day November 23

In her book, The Excellent Wife, Martha Peace writes:
God’s will for every Christian wife is that her most important ministry be to her husband (Genesis 2:18). After a wife’s own personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, nothing else should have greater priority. Her husband should be the primary benefactor of his wife’s time and energy, not the recipient of what may be left over at the end of the day.

Whether her husband is a faithful Christian man or an unbeliever, God wants every Christian woman to be a Godly wife – an excellent wife. This truth is so important to God that He has clearly and completely revealed it in His Word, the Bible. Indeed, the Scriptures alone are sufficient to provide the wisdom wives need for living the Christian life . . .

Sin is the only thing that will keep a woman from becoming a Godly wife. Sin is lawlessness, a transgression from any of God’s standards (1 John 3:4). It is failing to trust in and do what God’s Word says. Sin is wanting to do things her own way rather than God’s way. It is presuming God will help her even when she is neglecting His truth.

The bad news is that there are a number of ways to sin. The good news is that God Himself has provided a remedy for sin . . . When a wife trusts in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, He saves her from sin. He frees her from its death grip (and allows her to become the wife that God has called her to be).

This is such an important reminder for us today. It's such an encouraging fact that God has provided a way for every woman to be an excellent wife. He has made it possible for every Christian woman to be what God has called her to be. Biblical womanhood is not just for those who are super spiritual or extra holy. It is for everyone who has trusted in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord which is what we will be talking about this week at Grace Fellowship Church because our passage is Ephesians 5:22-24 which says:

Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

As we have said before, this is not an easy text to look at. It is not an easy passage to discuss because it raises a lot of questions. It raises a lot of concerns but the good news is that God has made it possible for wives to follow it. The good news is that He has provided a way for this text to be lived out and obeyed. You do not have to approach it with dread. You do not have to approach it with fear and anxiety worrying that you will fail. You can be an excellent wife. You can be a blessing to your husband through the Gospel and the power of God.

If you are interested in seeing what that looks like, please join us this Sunday morning. We are not currently meeting in person due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but you can listen to or watch the sermon on our website or YouTube channel.  May the Lord bless you and keep you until then!
